REPORT: Owls 1-1 Reading

It was back to base for the Owls in midweek with Reading the visitors – and the Berkshire side came within moments of taking back all three points.

Danny Williams fired the Royals into the lead early in the second half until the 90th minute when Modou Sougou rescued a point with almost the last kick of the game.

The Owls saw plenty of possession through the middle, albeit without any real penetration.

Before the break, the only incident of note was when Owls skipper Glenn Loovens left the field nursing a foot injury and that pretty much summed up a forgettable opening 45.

The Royals showed more intent straight from the restart and after Hal Robson-Kanu blazed over the bar from close range, they took the lead on 49 minutes.

Orlando Sa fed Williams on the angle just inside the area and the wideman delivered a sweet strike that flew into the top corner.

The goal certainly gave the Owls a jolt but they struggled to break down a Reading side boosted by the breakthrough.

The introduction of Sougou provided a spark down the right for Wednesday and the winger rescued the hosts in the last minute.

Rhoys Wiggins swung over a looping cross that keeper Jonathan Bond dropped at the feet of Sougou to drill into the Kop net.

Wednesday: Price, Hutchinson, Loovens (Sasso 35), Mathias (Bus 82), McGugan (Sougou 57), Lees, Wiggins, Lees, Joao, Lopez, Hunt, Wallace
