Forestieri ready to renew Terriers rivalry

11 January 2017

He’s been the match-winner in the past two meetings between the Owls and Huddersfield and Fernando Forestieri is hoping to continue his run against the Terriers on Saturday.

Back in October, the Owls were the first side to inflict a home defeat on the high-flying Terriers as a Forestieri penalty settled the Yorkshire derby.

It was a similar story in April 2016, with Forestieri sliding home the only goal of the game at The John Smith’s Stadium.

The Owls talisman is hoping to add a Hillsborough goal to his collection against Town to cap a positive week, which has seen him extend his contract with the club until 2020.

“I have a good record against them but away from home,” he said. “When we have played away, I have scored but now I hope I can score at home.

“But it doesn’t matter who scores, what it is important is the three points and fighting for the team.

“Every game is difficult but we can play against any team in this league and win three points.

“We know we have a strong team and can win any game if we play at our best.”

News of Forestieri’s extended stay at Hillsborough broke late on Monday evening via the Owls’ social media channels and swfc.co.uk.

The 26-year-old is now keen to look to the future with Wednesday and added:

“I’m so happy to stay here and now I want to focus and carry on playing and try to help Sheffield Wednesday.

“We look forward, we focus, we work together as a team and try to do better than what we have done in the past six months and keep improving.”
