No surprise to me

15 February 2017

Carlos Carvalhal was not surprised to see his defender Vincent Sasso on target against Blackburn Rovers.

The Frenchman struck twice in the first half which proved crucial for the Owls.

With both goals superbly taken; the first a volley at the back post and the second an unstoppable header, Carlos explained after the game.

“In the last two or three weeks in training, I said to Andy Rhodes and Lee Bullen, who were joking with me because all the time in corners and free kicks, I said to them, ‘let’s put the ball to Sasso because I know him very well and he is a threat.’

“Sometimes they joke with me and say, ‘where is Sasso, where is your striker!’

“But I know him very well, this is Sasso. The surprise to me was when he didn’t score in the past because he really is a threat, not just with headers but the way he attacks the ball.

“He is a threat to score goals, he thinks like an attacker but in the reality, he was not scoring.

“It was not a big surprise he achieved the goals.”
