Palace hit back to deny Wednesday

12 September 2016

The Owls’ Development Squad shared the spoils with Crystal Palace with an entertaining 2-2 draw at Middlewood Road.

Palace twice came from behind to claim a point, leaving the home side ultimately frustrated.

The likes of Jake Kean, Urby Emanuelson, Modou Sougou and Glenn Loovens were each given outings for the hosts.

After a goalless first half, the contest exploded into life in the second period.

Matt Penney gave Wednesday the lead on 64 minutes, firing home a superb free kick from 20 yards.

The Eagles, though, equalised with a set piece of their own 14 minutes later as Luke Dreher found a way past Kean between the sticks.

But Wednesday were far from finished and Devante Rodney fired Neil Thompson’s side in front on 80 minutes – only for Palace to level with eight minutes remaining through Randell Williams.

The Under-23s are next in action on Monday 19 September against Watford in Hertfordshire.
