We go there to win

7 January 2017

While conceding that the Owls are underdogs ahead of Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup-tie with Middlesbrough, Carlos Carvalhal says Wednesday will give everything at The Riverside.

Around 3,000 Wednesdayites have already snapped up their tickets for the third round clash and Carlos believes it will be a big test for the Owls.

He said: “We will be with a good support but they are the favourites, they are playing at home.

“Aitor Karanka has done a fantastic job to get Middlesbrough to the Premier League in his three and a half years at the club.

“When they achieved the Premier League they are consistent, they have upgraded important players and we are completely underdogs.

“We will play our football, I’m telling people all the time we are Sheffield Wednesday and we go to all the stadiums to try to win the games.

“This is one of the games we understand to be more difficult than the other games.”

Carlos has said he will not risk those in the squad with and recovering from injury, though has stressed the importance of the competition, explaining further:

“We will not risk players for sure, though that doesn’t mean we are not giving importance to the competition.

“We will try to win the game, we will be fighting to go to the next step in the competition but at the same time we will not be taking any risks with players.”
