We need you more than ever

Carlos Carvalhal has called on a sell-out Hillsborough faithful to raise the roof on Monday as the Owls face their second Championship clash in three days.

Wednesday welcome Wolves to S6 having grabbed what could prove a crucial point in the last minute of stoppage time at Preston on New Year’s Eve.

Carvalhal’s side now face a quick-fire return to base to take on Wanderers and the head coach has called for more of the outstanding support that has punctuated the campaign so far.

He told swfc.co.uk: “Our supporters have been amazing all season as they always have. We will have a crowd of over 30,000, which is fantastic.

“But now we need them more than ever. Two games in three days is very, very tough and this will be very demanding on the players.

“They will be playing in the red, under the red, and this is the time when injuries can happen, absolutely sure.

“So I ask our fans to be as loud as they can, show the level of support that they are known for around the country.”

On the team front, Carvalhal could include new recruit Callum McManaman in the squad, while the boss is also hopeful of Fernando Forestieri returning to duty having missed the Lilywhites clash through injury.

He added: “We have Callum available for the first time and he will give us a further option.

“He is a very good player and we are pleased to have him here as we have watched him for some time.

“He is an option so let’s see what we will do on Monday.

“We also have good wishes for Fernando. He came away from Newcastle with some pains so could not play against Preston as there was a risk.

“Again, let’s see what happens on Monday. Wolves will bring a different challenge, with a different dynamic under the new coach Paul Lambert.”
