What do we know?

21 April 2017

We’re firmly into that time in the season where those fighting for promotion and against relegation are working out the permutations and combinations.

Where teams up and down the country are working out the points required to achieve goals and the importance of those final few fixtures.

Now 43 games into the 2016/17 campaign and sitting fifth in the Championship, Carlos Carvalhal was asked whether the Owls are favourites to secure one of the all-important top six spots.

Wednesday are two points ahead of both Fulham and Leeds, who occupy sixth and seventh respectively.

And looking in the other direction, the Owls are three points away from Huddersfield in fourth and four points from Reading in third.

He responded: “What do we know in this moment?

“We are looking to ourselves, we have two home games and one away from our three games to finish.

“We are with confidence, the players are with confidence, the team are with confidence.

“But we must continue to fight hard, we must run and we must play good football to achieve the points.

“Our players and everybody at the club are focused on what we must do because we have a game tomorrow that we know won’t be easy.

“Derby are not easy opponents and we must do the correct things, we must be careful with the strong points they have in their team.”

Carlos went on to describe the fans’ input tomorrow as being potentially decisive.

Of Wednesday’s four successive wins leading into the Rams clash, two have been at Hillsborough where the supporters where influential against Newcastle and Cardiff.

He added: “We’ll have massive support from our fans again, we can rely on them.

“They can be decisive and we need a very good and strong environment again to try to win a very tough game.”
