Bothroyd checks in

31 August 2012

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Jay Bothroyd on loan until January 2013.

The towering striker joins the Owls in a temporary deal from Premiership club Queens Park Rangers.

Bothroyd is reunited with manager Dave Jones, who took the hitman to Cardiff City in August 2008.

The 30-year-old claimed 45 goals in 128 appearances for the Bluebirds to become one of the most prolific forwards in the Championship.

Bothroyd began his career with London giants Arsenal as a trainee before joining Coventry City for £1m in 2000.

He went on to play for Perugia, Blackburn Rovers, Charlton Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Stoke City prior to moving to Cardiff.

Bothroyd also has one full international cap for England, earned against France in 2010.

The London product joined QPR in July 2011 and now heads north to Hillsborough.

Bothroyd has been allocated shirt number 23 with Wednesday.
