Quality addition

20 August 2012

Dave Jones has told swfc.co.uk that he is delighted with the capture of Barcelona striker Rodri.

The 22-year-old has signed a season-long loan deal at Hillsborough with a view to a permanent move and the Wednesday boss is pleased with his latest addition to the squad.

He said: “Rodri is from Barcelona B and he’s a player we’ve been monitoring for three months.

“We didn’t think we would get him, we didn’t think Barcelona would let him out but thankfully they want him to play games.

“It started off really as ‘we wouldn’t mind him’ tongue in cheek, but we didn’t get a ‘no.’ So we started chasing and have got the player and we’re really pleased.

“He thinks he should be in Barcelona’s first team but there are one or two players ahead of him at the moment!”

As previously stated, at the end of the talented youngster’s season-long stay with Wednesday, the option will be there to make the move permanent.

Jones explained: “It’s a loan with a view to a permanent so we will have a look at him for a longer period to see how he settles.

“It’s more to see whether he settles down and if he likes the club, the style of play and the English style of football.

“We know he is a quality player - Barcelona don’t pay money for players if they don’t feel they have something.”
