Young people to apply for Owls Education Programme

6 January 2015

The Sheffield Wednesday Education Programme are on the scout for their next intake of students for its BTEC Sports courses starting in September.

The club’s Education Programme, which is based at the ground, is taking applications for its BTEC Level 1, 2 and 3 extended diploma in Sport course and is holding an open day for prospective students on 13 January 2015 at 6:00pm at the ground.

The course allows students to study towards the qualification whilst regularly playing and coaching Futsal to develop technical, tactical and physical ability. The students also play in a professional club in the Futsal League.

In association with the Football League Trust, the programme allows young people aged 16-18 to study at the football club’s education facilities and various sports venues across Sheffield.

The education programme is delivered in association with Sheffield Wednesday and their Community Programme and last year announced record breaking exam results since the course started – something the programme is hoping to replicate with this year’s student intake.

To qualify for Level 3 entry, students require four A-C GCSEs (subject to confirmation), including English and Maths or a BTEC Level 2. Those who narrowly miss out on those grades will be considered for Level 1 or Level 2 course.

The two-year programme is delivered at the learning centre at Hillsborough and has been in place for two years. The course has seen 90 per cent of young people progress on to higher education or course-related jobs.
